CITY 7'S TOURNAMENT

6 May 2007

The City 7’s tournament is now a well-established rugby fixture on the spring sporting calendar and 6th May 2007 was the 35th staging of the event.

This was also Mako Group’s fifth as principal sponsors of the City 7’s, which this year raised £25,000 for SPARKS with further collections still to come in. The standard of rugby this year remained high and suitably competitive with PWC retaining the Winners Trophy after the final against Freshfields. Savills beat DTZ to win the Plate competition. The event was a great day out and something that MAKO are proud to be associated with. The day is a good mix of social activity, competitive rugby and it raises important funds for the registered children’s charity SPARKS (Sport Aiding Medical Research for Kids).

Founded and supported by top personalities in sports and entertainment, SPARKS fundraises through sporting activities such as the City 7’s and polo tournaments. SPARKS funds pioneering research that has a practical, positive impact on the lives of babies and children. Since 1991, SPARKS has funded over 160 medical projects in the UK, committing over £13 million to tackle conditions as diverse as cerebral palsy, meningitis, the dangers of premature birth, spina bifida childhood arthritis and cancers. The importance of their work is summed up by one startling statistic: around 80% of pioneering paediatric medical research at hospitals and universities in the UK has to be funded by charities like SPARKS.

Please continue to support this event as your participation ensures its future, and therefore plays a part in helping SPARKS continue its important work in the UK. We are very much looking forward to next May and we hope to see you there. Find out more at www.citysevens.com and www.sparks.org.uk
